Kit-Teas: a very small drawing with two very appealing ingredients

Tea and kittens. A promising combination, especially when the kittens appear to have claimed the china. Kit-Teas by Chesca Burrows brings two of the artist’s favourite things together in a miniature coloured-pencil drawing.

The work measures just 70 by 70 millimetres. Working at that scale gave Chesca a chance to challenge her skills as a miniaturist, taking on two young cats and the contrast between their soft fur and the smooth, shiny surface of a teacup. The pleasure is in leaning closer and discovering how much she has included.

There is warmth and gentle humour in the pairing. These are companions to a tea break with rather more personality than the usual biscuit, and the small format makes their presence feel particularly intimate.

Supplied framed and mounted, Kit-Teas is a lovely piece to explore for someone who enjoys collecting small artworks, or simply believes that a cat and a cuppa make excellent company.
