Little Suki: an artist’s companion in flowers and colour

An artist’s inspiration may be sitting very close by. Little Suki by Louise Angus puts one of her own cats at the heart of a screenprint, joining feline company with her long-standing enjoyment of drawing flowers.

Suki came into Louise’s life through Boote Home for Cats in Liverpool. Her cats are a continuing source of ideas, and this work gives one particular companion a place in her printmaking. It is a personal starting point for an image with an appealing decorative character.

The screenprint brings the cat and flowers together through clear shapes and contrasting colour. It is an original print in an edition of ten, offering a different approach to the subject from the painted and drawn portraits elsewhere in the exhibition.

For someone whose home feels complete with a cat and a vase of flowers, Little Suki makes a lovely connection between the two. Look closely at how the arrangement gives each part of the image its own presence.
