“Humph” is one of six limited-edition, hand-printed reduction relief prints by Marian Forster, a series that also includes “Sakki,” “Tilly,” “Prudence,” “Matilda,” and “Adam.”

This unique and challenging printing method, sometimes called the “suicide method” by Pablo Picasso, involves using a single piece of lino. With each new color, the surface of the lino is gradually cut away and destroyed. This makes it impossible to go back or create more prints after the process is complete.
The artist faces two major challenges: the risk of a single wrong cut or color ruining the entire design and the need to perfectly align each layer of color. Despite the complex and time-consuming nature of the process, the transformation that occurs with each new layer of ink is fascinating. The final print is often a marvel, revealing an astonishing final image.
